  • Enhanced employee comfort and productivity
  • Reduced HVAC requirements and equipment by 11%

Objectives

CenturyLink, Inc., one of the largest telecommunications companies in the United States, opened the new CenturyLink Technology Center of Excellence facilities with a technology research and development lab, a network operations center and collaborative office and meeting space.

“We expect the center to spur innovation, idea generation and problem solving that will benefit our customers, our employees and the communities we serve,” says CEO and President Glen F. Post, III.

CenturyLink uses their new facilities to show employees and customers its commitment to excellence. CenturyLink chose advanced electrochromic technology that aligns with its vision of making the center as technologically advanced as possible. The facility was designed and built to meet LEED Silver certification.

Solution

The building incorporates 37,000 square feet of View Dynamic Glass, making this facility the single largest installation of intelligent, electrochromic glass in the country.

“CenturyLink’s vision is to build facilities that will stimulate and inspire talent, while preserving resources and leaving a small environmental footprint,” says Wolfgang Wiewel, director of corporate facilities for CenturyLink. “We immediately saw the fit of View Dynamic Glass in our facility and have been impressed with View’s ability to execute this project successfully.”

Outcome

View Dynamic Glass leverages nanotechnology and pre-programmed intelligence to tint windows and skylights automatically in response to outside conditions and user preferences, eliminating the need for blinds or shades, providing enhanced occupant experience, increasing daylighting while preserving the view, and improving energy efficiency.

“Every architect dreams of designing buildings that harmonize with the environment and provide the best occupant experience,” says Dan Picket, principal architect at Moody Nolan, the firm leading the planning, development and design of the project. “Dynamically adjusting window glass has been known to be the game changer in building design, but remained the ‘technology of the future’ for a long time. We are pleased that View has executed on its product and operations to make this remarkable product the ‘technology of the present.’ We are excited to be designing multiple projects with View Dynamic Glass as the basis of design.”
